Technology and the First Year Experience
To be a successful, engaged GMC student, there are four technology platforms that your child should be using:
Our Learning Management System (LMS) is Moodle. Even though our undergraduate courses are mostly residential, as you can see from this parent orientation course Moodle provides a convenient platform for faculty to share readings, course syllabi, and information, and for students to turn in written work, contribute to online discussions, earn "badges" in some courses, and keep in touch about course events. Moodle is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Students are also expected to regularly check and use their campus e-mail. If a professor or other staff member needs to communicate with your student outside of class, e-mail is the most likely venue. Students are expected to check for messages at least once per day.
Our Google academic platform for e-mail also affords GMC students unlimited access to their personal Google Drive. Students can store and share documents on their own Drive. Occasionally, faculty members will ask for worked to be turned in via Google.
Finally, MyGMC serves as students' personal homepages. Here, students will find information about course registration, academic services and support, various forms and handbooks, our reservation system for rooms or vans for activities, and a lot of other information about the campus.
Tutorials for using Moodle and registering for courses can be found here or on students' Moodle dashboards.
