Introduction

Green Mountain College's nationally recognized curriculum is built on the framework of social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Our commitment to being first in sustainability incorporates systems on many levels, from climate and culture to communities and the resilience of each member.  We value parents as important partners in helping students to fully engage in our community and become resilient, successful, and educated human beings. At Green Mountain College, we recognize that our faculty and staff share a common goal with parents:  we want our students to have a rewarding and insightful educational experience.  With this in mind, we look forward to working with parents as important members of our community.  We know that your child will likely experience ups and downs, excitement and anxiety, as they transition to this new environment.  Our goal with this online parent orientation course is to offer you an overview of our unique curriculum, introduce you to our campus resources, and provide strategies for supporting your child.  We hope that this course will encourage exciting conversations between you and your child and help you engage in meaningful dialogue about the college experience.  We also hope that when necessary, you can direct your student to the appropriate services at Green Mountain College when they need additional support or when they just have questions about their first year of college.  We look forward to getting to know you and your student this year and hope to meet you at our Alumni and Family Weekend in Octoberand at other events throughout the year!
