Understanding Shortnames: Year and Term

In order to prevent conflicts in the system, GMCmoodle needs to append each course shortname with a year code and a term code.

Shortname Examples

Undergraduate: Images 07 (f2013ELA)

Graduate: Bioregional Theory 01 (2013 EA)

Year Code

This indicates the academic year in which the class is offered. For example, a class that is offered in the spring semester of the 2013-2014 academic year (Jan 2014 - May 2014) would still be coded as 2013.

Code Academic Year Calendar Dates
2013 2013-2014 2013 Aug - 2014 July
2014 2014-2015 2014 Aug - 2015 July
2015 2015-2016 2015 Aug - 2016 July

Term Code

This indicates the term or semester in which the class is offered.

For undergraduate courses this is generally broken down into either Fall (f) or Spring (s), with a third winter term for Killington students.

For the graduate program this. For the graduate program there are seven terms in a year coded as EA to EG (term codes starting with B have been retired and rolled into the E terms)

Department Code*

*Only undergraduate courses have a department code also included in their shortname. This is to prevent the overlapping of courses with common names like 'practicum' and indicates which academic discipline the course falls under.

Cross listed courses appear with the department code of the parent course (for example, Asian Art appears as a Sociology course).
